COMCASt Gala Recapped: Our Favorite Films

Missed the COMCASt Gala? Check out attendees’ reviews on their favorite films that were showcased this weekend!

Runner’s Blood, directed by Leonardo Yana Romero

Magnus, a delusional athlete consumed with perfecting his performance, is effortlessly outperformed by a runner, Ashton. Awestruck, Magnus becomes obsessed with matching Ashton's performance and resorts to disturbing methods to do so.

I think my favorite film was Runner’s Blood... it was so thrilling to watch and the plot was amazing to see.
My favorite film tonight was Runner’s Blood because it had a great theme. It was like an actual movie to me... it reminds me of myself because I used to run, and you always want to compete with people [while running]. You could see the message the director had - ‘you want to be the best of the best, but you’re not always going to be the best of the best’. The graphics and music were great.

The Story of Charcoal, directed by Christine An

Charcoal, a multimedia collective that consists of people of color attending Boston University. While we witness the growth and glory of this POC (people-of-color) organization in a PWI (predominantly-white-institution), are we asking any questions of they even get here in the first place?

I think my favorite film would have to be the story of Charcoal just because I was able to see the fashion show from Charcoal as a freshman. I feel like it really, truly tells the story of the mission Charcoal had as a fashion group. I feel that just from watching the documentary, people can understand the mission and the purpose of why Charcoal was here at BU. It was nicely put together, the music and everything. It seemed like it was an actual fashion team, and it was just so beautiful. Perfect and well done!

The Fairy House, Directed by Emma Weller and Zoe Moore

The Fairy House is a 12-minute short film about reconnecting with nature and the people around you. This film celebrates the ability we all have to embrace our inner child when the monotony of adulthood gets us down. THE FAIRY HOUSE has been fueled by passion, dedication, and hard work from our amazing cast and crew, who volunteered their time to create this film.

I liked The Fairy House because it reminded me how to do time management and prioritize the people around you so that you have no regrets later on... it gives a little glimpse of how to manage your life.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended the COMCASt Gala as well as the very talented students who put these films together! Stay tuned and updated with our social media accounts for more CAS Student Government events this month.
